- One of the biggest advantages of working as part of a team is the ability to come to a group consensus. In general, the more people fully involved in a given project, the tighter and more well-rounded the overall decision will be. As it is impossible to reach any kind of consensus when one works alone, this certainly makes a case for any team-based project.
- When working on a project alone, you can only do so much in the way of brainstorming. Sometimes it takes getting at least two or three creative minds on a project in order to come up with an effective solution. The ability to brainstorm with your colleagues makes working as a team effective both in terms of time management and the end result.
- Anyone who has ever worked in a team situation has likely experienced the arguing that can ensue when it comes time to make the final decision. A certain amount of arguing is to be expected in any team decision-making process, however some decisions are far more prone to excessive debate than others. Arguing during the decision-making process can lead to a great deal of wasted time, and is a drastic disadvantage of a team-based approach.
- In most team-based situations, responsibilities are not shared equally. Often, there is at least one person in the group who has more power when it comes to making the end decision. This can lead to a variety of problems, the most pronounced being tension between group members that can have a negative effect on the end decision.
